Amnon Samid, an energy expert, Director General of AGS Technologies, founder and chairman of several companies worldwide, announced to the 2009 Eilot International renewable energy conference plenum the establishment of the First Multi-National Task Force for 100% Renewable Energy. "We are currently assembling the founding team of vetted credentialed individuals and organizations…Our main goal is to support development of family of technologies that will enable us to grow our economy and protect our environment and secure our existence at the same time, by eliminating the use of oil – first – for electricity production and then for transportation. Jonathan Shrier, acting assistant secretary at the Office of Policy and International Affairs of the US Department of Energy, told the conference plenum that the agreement between the US and Israel on developing renewable energy technologies had the support of Dr. Steven Chu, the new US Secretary of Energy.
Other announcements made at the conference include the Timna Renewable Energy Park, which will be the national laboratory for developing and implementing Renewable energy technologies, and the AORA Solar Thermal Module at Kibbutz Samar, the world's first commercial hybrid solar gas-turbine power plant that is already nearing completion.
The three-day conference focused on the latest innovations in renewable energy, with the participation of internationally-recognized alternative energy experts, but gave the stage also for new announcements by leading start-ups, which are developing promising solar energy technologies.
